Yeah... I know. It doesn’t sound like something you would want to eat. For a while, I thought it was something perverted, but I promise it’s not! “Nutritional yeast is a species of yeast known as Saccharomyces cerevisiae” (source). While it may have a similar starting point as brewer’s yeast (yeast that ends up making beer) and baker’s yeast (yeast that is baked into breads and other tasty treats), the difference between them is its growth and cultivation process.

![]() For me, my rule of thumb when it comes to ingredient lists on food is that less is more. The less amount of ingredients there are listed on the package, the better! Do I want the apple chips where apples are listed third and I have to guess if the 'x' is silent in some of the other ingredients? Or do I want the apple chips that literally are made from apples, cinnamon, and sugar? I always try to keep that in mind when browsing the isles, but sometimes the luxury of a short ingredient list isn't available. So, I've taken it upon myself to write down every ingredient that I've come across on my dairy-free products that made me question if I even wanted to eat the product or not. |
